Sophie’s Universe Adapted Footstool

Here is my Sophie’s Universe Adapted Footstool cover. So if you’ve never been introduced to the Sophie’s Universe Blanket CAL (Crochet Along) it’s a beautiful colourful afghan blanket which uses loads of different crochet techniques to make a mandela like pattern. I’ve always wanted to do it, but as an avid crocheter I have way too many blankets around the house.

Since moving house last year I’ve been a little disappointed that all my old furniture just doesn’t seem to fit in with the new house. Like this foot stool from Dwell, its black and glossy and now everything in the new house is more traditional and has a ‘cottage like’ feel to it. But after donating most of my old stuff I wanted to keep some things, adjusting to a new house can be stressful, take away all your familiar furniture and trinkets etc.. and it is disheartening.

So I wasn’t going to throw this footstool away, it has a few scratches so I doubted I could donate it, so I decided to adapt the Sophie’s Universe crochet pattern and make a Sophie’s Universe Footstool cover! I did the Sophie’s Universe pattern to the end of part 3 (round 25) which equalled to 240 stitches, from then on I just made the pattern up as I went along, I slowly reduced the row count to 220 as it was a little baggy in the top 9 rows, there was no way I was going to frog that though!

I really recommend adapting this pattern to make any numerous of things, I’ve mainly seen pillows on Ravelry and before starting I couldn’t find anyone who had Sophie’s Universe Adapted Footstool or poufee cover.

So get your crochet hooks out and try and see what you can make from Sophie’s Universe CAL! They have videos showing you how to complete each round. It’s a time consuming project, but well worth it!

Until next time (another free pattern is coming your way!) Happy Crocheting!
